One Project,
a Great Place to Work
We’re excited to announce One Project is a Great Place to Work. We want to share a bit more about the journey behind how we got here:
One Project was founded in 2019 as a think tank and early-stage funder. We were experimenting: researching, building relationships across the economic democracy ecosystem, supporting leaders through flexible grantmaking. Over time, our understanding deepened and so did our focus. Funding became more targeted. Our role in the movement became clearer. We sharpened our work around building real infrastructure. In line with our mission to give economic power to the people, Common is our digital platform connecting people, organizations, and resources to coordinate and grow economic democracy at global scale. The Common Action Fund is a $100M pooled fund governed through Common, where funders and field leaders will collectively direct resources to what works.
As the work evolved, so did we. Moving from broad exploration to building a technology platform meant getting serious about how we operate as an organization — people systems, professional development, feedback, career pathways, compensation rooted in equity. We didn’t do it just to check a box. We did it because how you build an organization matters as much as what you’re building.
That belief drove us to pursue Great Place To Work certification. To earn it, a team completes a Trust Index™ survey and needs a cumulative score of 64.5% or higher. We sent it to our team. 95% said One Project is a great place to work.
Those numbers have real-world consequences: 76% of job seekers prefer GPTW-certified workplaces, and employees who feel proud of where they work are more likely to stay and bring others in. But what we care about most is what our team actually said:
“What makes this place truly beautiful isn’t just the mission. It’s the way we show up for it, and for each other.”
“I feel like I can be who I am, authentically, here.”
“Great” isn’t the same as “complete.” We’re still working on it. Scope, strategic clarity, the ongoing effort of building something durable…. We take the constructive feedback as seriously as the praise. The work ahead, building infrastructure for economic democracy with a global network of values-aligned stakeholders, requires us to fine-tune from the inside out. This certification is one step in that process. We’re glad to be taking it together.
